Just wanted to say Hello,
Not much to say about me. I'm 50, been shooting an M1 carbine since the first time I shot my uncle's Blue Sky Import back around 1980(ish) and it was the first rifle I ever shot and hit what I aimed at. I was in love with them ever since. A few years later, I picked up a mutt rifle, built by Mr Dow at my local gun show and I've been shooting it stock ever since. It's a Rock-Ola Receiver, I.B.M. barrel, Inland Trigger group(I think it's an Inland) along with whatever loose parts he had to put it together with when he built it. I found this site by accident while I was Googling ideas for a Scope mount and stock upgrade for it. Now that my eyesight has started switching to Bifocals, the ideas of scopes vs. Iron sights have become increasingly more important to me than it was about 5 or 10 years ago. Anyway, I'm a pretty normal guy. 1 wife 1 son 2 dogs...

Welcome. I wouldn't recommend anything permanent scope mount wise to the Rockola. Even the mounts that slip on through the dove tail and clamp down on the receiver can mar the finish. Is your IBM barrel dated? Any import marks even the tiny tiny letters on the bottom of the barrel?

Hi and welcome to the forum from New Mexico!
I've found that a long relief scope mounted to an Ultimak rail works well. If you use a quick release scope rings you can easily switch back to iron sights. Also, it does not require any permanent modification to your carbine. http://ultimak.com/M6.htm It just clamps to the barrel in place of the hand guard. |

Nothing wrong with "mutts". They save wear and tear on the classics and shoot just as well or better.

With an Ultimak you do have to modify your stock a little so do it with a shooter stock with no collector value.
