This is for PC. I do not know if it works on Mac
After you open in a new tab hold the Ctrl button and press the plus sign to make even bigger. Ctrl and zero will put your view back to original If you have a wheel on your mouse you can Ctrl and use wheel to adjust size as well.

I have to agree. #2 just doesn't look right. I could tell better if they were in hand and I was using a magnifying glass.

I would have said image #3 - way to deep and even impression, also not sure the image of the cannon
is correct (hard to tell it is so deep). If it is #2, tell me WHY am I wrong??? Thanks!

#2 is a fake; the rest are real IBM CC's
Unfortunate as the ghost of the real one is still somewhat visible on that particular stock, near the wrist of grip but heavily sanded over. Knowing fakes vs real takes seeing many real examples, diligence in research and documenting what you learn as you go. I am still relatively new to the hobby and still learning myself. A big part of what makes it fun, IMO; always learning. I gambled buying that stock, not being able to see the CC detail very well from a single picture and as mentioned before, still learning. Education is sometimes not cheap. Cartouches like flips; can be tough. Documenting the "WHY" openly on forums, only feeds the humpers (fakers) that are manufacturing these things. They will make the corrections to there fakes and will be listing them as original NOS next week on well known auction sites; taking advantage of us that are still learning. |

This was fun- was typing away and thinking on #2 The grooves look a bit dark like stain vs. true wood color. I seem to see this this a lot on that big four letter word auction site.

Each of the mfgs. "cannons" and detail in the cartouche are slightly different.
If one looks at each with a glass or enlarged, you can see the difference in #2. It is tough to tell the difference at times, but a sharp/deep "new" cartouche on a well worn, or sanded, or well dinged and oiled stock is pretty easy to see. Look for sharp lines over dings and chips and other defects in the original wood.

Also not very good at cartouches, I did notice the file name early on and felt like I'd be a cheater if I answered. It was good to see all these cartouches side by side for comparison, but I will say that real or not, there is something about #4 that I just don't like, would probably end up passing on that one if I saw it for sale somewhere.

I flunked.
I am too inexperienced to distinguish real from fake stampings on Carbines. I'd have to dig out my reference books to have a chance. |

Metal stamps, a wood medium and human hands... a recipe for inconsistencies. Pictures help, but with the 3 things I mentioned there will be variations in real acceptance stamps-and that doesn't even touch the realm of fake ones.
