Here is my Bavarian IBM I picked up at a local PS a few years ago. The copy below is from an inquiry I sent to Jim and his reply....thank you.
Generally the folks that like the "Bavarians" look at the <span style="font-size:11.5pt;line-height:107%; font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"; color:#323130;mso-ansi-:EN-US;mso-fareast-:EN-US;mso-bidi-: AR-SA">condition of the carbine and its parts first. In your carbines case, the WB-LP-1239 on the trigger guard was the marking mandated by the U.S. Office of Military Government (OMGUS) for the Wurttemberg-Baden Landpolizei (State Police). The 1239 was as inventory number but also indicates they received at 1,239 carbines or more. The Landpolizei added the LPW to the recoil plate and the 451 on the receiver bevel. The 451 indicates which police post/station the carbine was assigned too. I haven't found anything that identifies the different police posts/stations yet. While most of the carbines that have returned from German police agencies have an import mark, there are very few that don't. Brought in before the 1968 Gun Control Act took effect or returned to the U.S. Army by Austria (who bought many from Bavaria) who passed them on to the Civilian Marksmanship Program in 2008 and again in 2014 for civilian sales. Those interested in a carbine for its history after it left the manufacturer that included it's use during the Occupation of Germany don't devalue the carbine for its import mark. The import mark is simply part of its history. Edited by sleeplessnashadow - Dec 21 2023 at 5:48pm |

Thank you for your reply 1st M1 88......
It’s an obvious early century import and all parts are correct. I do not know who owned it prior to me, but I am happy to have a Bavarian for my collection. The addiction after 30 years has only gotten worse! |

Thanks fellas for your replies. With the definitive information from Sleeplessnashadow of "BavarianM1Carbines.com", it's nice to understand the history of these carbines and their service in Germany after the war. I don't see too many of these or the CMP ones sold years ago around. It's my pleasure to share what I have in my collection so we all can enjoy and continue to learn. I'll be digging out some CMP carbines and M1's soon to post....Have a great day!
