With it being a crummy weather day here in Ohio, thought I would post something different to look at. This came out of Tenn. about 5-6 years ago from the nephew of gentleman who was in the service.

Very nice pictures of a fine looking UEF carbine.
Thanks for sharing. Glad to see another example of a rear sight dovetail showing punch marks holding the sight in place. Initially I questioned whether that could be correct when I first noticed this on my example, which is quite close to your serial number. |

Thanks for the kind comments gentlemen.
When I received this rifle it was pretty filthy with greasy grime in the nooks and crannies. At first glance at the rear sight I said to myself NO, thinking it had an adjustable sight removed. But then relief as I cleaned a little and saw how it staked. I always liked how the "U" is missing on barrel along with long leg of the P proof. |

Looks like the most action it has seen is a dress parade. A fine specimen.

No, I did not take any photos of it when I had it apart. It's on my to do list when I can get a nice overcast day and have time.

Took a few shots of the inside of this Carbine. OP slide is marked WU, inside bottom. Trigger .U., sear is U. on bottom, safety is unmarked, rear sight leaf .U., stock and hand guard are M-U. Thanks for looking! Edited by jangle - Jan 24 2021 at 12:54pm |

Sure is a great looking Underwood. Looking at featured carbines it seems that some of the carbines individual parts all have different shades and types of finishes. The rear sight pin on this Underwood appears blued along with other parts that contrast. I'm thinking that this would be a clue along with checking matting surfaces for matching wear patterns would help in identifying how original a carbine might be. Not including fake parts at this time, Would this be a reasonable assumption? I'm trying to piece together some of this carbine puzzle for myself as I have an Inland that I took the leap on.

A blued pin is normal.
