How important is it to measure throat erosion, and which measuring tool is best recommended? Thanks

Could be wrong but I don't think that throat erosion is much of an issue with carbines. I think it becomes an issue with rifles that shoot bottleneck cartridges.

I appreciate the link. It seems to answer the question just fine. Not to worry about TE with the carbine.

FWIW,  Kuhnhausen's Shop Manual has on page 90, Para 4 on "Chamber throat - Chamber throat and breech bore area wear/erosion should be within ordnance diametrical specifications of: .087" included throat taper per inch from .3135" basic bullet seat diameter to point of intersection with the .308" + .002" bore diameter..."  It goes on to say measure using breach bore gauge or measuring a Cerrosafe chamber cast.  Seems to be more of a potential accuracy issue.

I seem to remember that CMP included throat measurements on the hang tags of carbines in the most recent release (2016?). I don't own a throat gauge and have never paid attention to it.

Good Call GotSnlB28
