The story:
My wife went to her chiropractor and the doctor mentioned he had an older client that wanted to sell part of his WWII collection. I am not experienced in M1 Carbines as I don't have one but I went to his house and I purchased an M1 Inland and an M1A1 Inland from him. Hopefully the link for the M1A1 works. |

Would love to see more pictures of the M1A1, looks pretty nice. Also some pics of the other Inland. Highly encourage you to fill out data sheets on both of them.

Thank you for all your encouraging responses. I'm reading a lot about M1 carbines and M1A1 's on the internet now that I own two. I will try to do a data sheet when I get some time. Here are the photos I took tonight: Edited by cipollinaj11 - Mar 17 2020 at 5:47pm |

I'm reading up on INLAND carbines but can not find an answer to this question: The earlier dated M1A1 has the darker finish ( manganese ? ) while the later dated M1 carbine has a greenish gray tinted ( zinc ? ) finish. When ( and why ) did the changeover take place ??

Inland used a black oxide finish from the beginning of production until about the Spring, roughly, of 1943 when they changed over to a parkerized finish.

Thanks for that info.
I just wanted to clarify the purchase . He first sold me only an M1A1 that people on another site told me was less valuable. It was an early M1A1 in excellent condition but the vet who brought it back apparently carved his girlfriend's name in it as a present to her. When the seller called me and said he had an excellent M1 carbine and another M1A1 for sale, I told him I would purchase the M1 carbine but would pay a little extra and just trade for the better M1A1. That's the deal we agreed on. Here is the link to the first M1A1. Edited by cipollinaj11 - Mar 18 2020 at 6:43am |

Not knowing what you paid for these... But the first one with the name carved is very nice as well. If they were reasonable cost I would have bought them both. Both are hard to find very nice examples.

The black oxide finish on early Inland carbines have a matte appearance on the exposed surfaces because it was grit blasted prior to finish application. If you look under the wood, it often has a glossy blued appearance.
