For those of you following the "Development pages" we recently secured actual pictures of the Simpson Carbine which was submitted by the Springfield Armory.

This carbine was submitted for the Preliminary Ordnance Light Rifle Service Trials 01 May 1941. It was rejected due to it's weight.

SIMPSON CARBINE .30
Manufactured by Springfield Armory, Springfield, Ma. - Complete with magazine. Stock broken on right hand. Trigger assembly missing. No visible markings.

Weapon listed as overage found on post in Museum area and accessioned into Army collection. Received 4/27/60.

Notes: "Mr. C.E. Simpson, head of the Design Section of the Engineering Department, received the Award for Exceptional Meritorious Civilian Service (1945)." - Constance Green

This leaves us with only two missing pictures of those submissions:
Val A Browning design by Colt. We do have a drawing from the patent.

John J. Murphy and Dr. Kohler design. This is a Modified version of the cal. .276, Joseph C. White gas operated rifle of the prior M1 Rifle trials.

Any information of these two and pictures are sought after by the club.

Put on your google hats and we one day may be able to complete the chapter on this.

The Simpson was rejected for its weight? What was it? Development.html doesn't list it.
