Many of us remember SAMCO Global Arms, Inc. in Miami as a former surplus firearm dealer who went bankrupt in 2015. I bought several items from them, beginning in the 1980's. When they went bankrupt, an asset list was generated, which included descriptions of all items, including serial numbers of their firearms. The list is 475 pages long, with tens of thousands of various firearm serial numbers. I have transposed 6 pages below of M1 Carbines that were included.
I've had this list for a few years now, as I was asked at the time to evaluate potential acquisition of all assets by a friend of mine...The document is dated 12/8/15. Anyway, I think it's appropriate to make these serial numbers available to the collector community. These were acquired by Century, and may have already been sold. Perhaps someone here will spot a serial of a Carbine they have recently acquired. It would also be good to analyze the data for conformance to known serial number ranges. No Irwin Pedersens on the list, which is disappointing. A couple of years ago Sir Plus Guns was auctioning off a series of IPs and an UN-QUALITY one after another and the ones I saw all came from Century Arms. They sold other makes also, but I would've assumed all of these were SAMCO Carbines, especially given the time frame. Anybody know where they might have come from? After the last IP wouldn't sell they halted sales of them.

Yep there are a few interesting ones, might be a log issue? Sometimes serials are hard to read or mix up, or maybe just that uber rare find!

I hear they liked using the buffing wheels in metal parts that were corroded, obscuring markings?
The acquisition date us 1986. Why sit in them? Mismanagement?

I hadn't heard about the buffing wheels, but I did hear some mismanagement stories. If you have one of these Carbines, you can at least partially answer the "If this gun could talk" question...These Carbines sat in a Miami warehouse for 30 years of their life. Not glamorous history, but history nonetheless... David Albert dalbert@sturmgewehr.com |

Yeah, blackfish, I can see that being the reason they didn't sell and stay sold. But having to store them all those years costs. Makes more sense to blow them out at what they will sell for rather than keeping them. I once bought an INTRAC item at a local show using a credit card. 11 months and 2 weeks later they hit my credit card with a different name on the bill. I called the name indicated to see what the now forgotten charge was for. The person asked if I purchased something from INTRAC and I acknowledged yes. This company had acquired INTRAC and was going through the records finding a bunch of charges that they had never pushed through. ncin1911 has a thread about his SAMCO S'G' acquisition and the bankruptcy offering with images. His is overly polished and the images he posted show two buffing machines on site stationed for work on actions we presume. Edited by tenOCEE - Aug 18 2019 at 6:18pm |

The carbines SAMCO imported in May 1986 may not have sat in their U.S. facility all that time. What follows was not for carbines but included as an example of the issues importers deal with that prevent the timely sale of imports.
SAMCO's bankruptcy stemmed from legal problems that started with the sale of FAL's and AA guns to Honduras from Egypt in 1985 that Honduras never paid for. SAMCO sued Honduras in Honduras in 2003 with a series of lawsuits in Honduras and the USA over the transaction. Honduras still had them and was ordered by a Honduran Supreme Court ruling to return them. SAMCO didn't pay their Honduran lawyer. She sued them and won putting a lien for over $1 million on the FAL's. I went thru the court docs several years ago. No mention of carbines. A Honduran End User Certificate identified the Honduras items as the AA guns, FAL's, parts, ammo. I have no info on why the carbines weren't sold sooner, where they sat, or if they went somewhere and were returned for some reason. Just one possible explanation. The maze of legal documents and disputes over what was sold or not paid for can sometimes tie up things for years. AN inability to sell those carbines may have contributed to their financial problems that put them in bankruptcy. Jim |

For whatever it's worth, the Universal Firearms and Plainfield carbines in those serial number ranges were being sold retail in late 1967 to mid 1968.

Jim, Thank you for that info. The Universals were also made in Miami. However, the acquisition date with other Carbines probably indicates an import, or an acquisition of another firearm business. It would be interesting to know how they became combined with original Carbines, and where they all came from. At least this list provides a part of their story.
I think Winchester 13393 is just missing its last digit. David Albert dalbert@sturmgewehr.com |

Yep the S'G' below is the one I acquired from a Florida seller who purchased it directly from Century Arms after the SAMCO buy. I contacted Kelley Coder from Century Arms, who opened a ticket with there compliance department on my behalf for any additional information they might share. There response; which I shared in the above thread @tenOCEE mentioned, stated it was obtained as a Barreled Action from the SAMCO buy. I believe most of the carbines SAMCO had left at the time of there bankruptcy were just barreled actions as shown in the auction pictures. I could never really tell for sure but the one picture of the wire/buffing wheels appears to have a crate behind them with potential carbine barrels laying on it but who knows. While researching SAMCO and before receiving the carbine from seller, I found the SAMCO Global Arms Inc. inventory sheets as they are still available along with pictures on the auction companies website under the Documents tab of the auction listing. They were not cared for very well apparently but at least the import stamp location and size was done better than many IMO.
http://www.stamplerauctions.com/auction/280410/samco-global-arms-firearms/ Saginaw 3552886 5/14/86 The barreled action is all expected S'G' components with exception of the flat bolt, which is QHMC but with all S'G' internals. Not sure if QHMC every supplied any stipped bolts to Grand Rapids, I couldn't find anything but maybe someone here could comment on that. The stock was an Inland Pot Belly and the trigger housing and group I forget but believe I show it or link to pictures in my thread. Century provided the TH group, adjustable rear sight and stock. I was pleased to find no rear sight staking and the fact it was S'G' vs S.G but the buffing breaks my heart . It's no beauty but I am still happy to own it. I call her Sammy. |

ncin1911,
Thank you for posting the link. I remember reviewing the photos prior to the sale, and I had everything sent to me at the time, so I didn't realize the info was still out there. There's a lot of interesting information in the inventory document, if you make time to look through it. Bottom line, the business was apparently mismanaged, and yet they probably could have saved themselves if they had truly wanted to. I heard about some of the internal politics involved, and I think it got to a point where the right person couldn't, or didn't care to run the enterprise as it should/could have been run. I guess it lasted for quite a while. Century certainly spent a lot of money beyond what they paid for the assets to prepare and transport the assets, and clean the place out. I hope they make a great profit off of it all. David Albert dalbert@sturmgewehr.com |
