I have several carbines and want to restore a particular Underwood. Need a flip sight and refuse to pay prevailing price. Alternatively, my company has a precision tool room. Can make about anything including sights. What are my options for mangled original to reverse engineer? No, I will not be selling knock offs. Suspect this will be 3-4 hrs work @ $90/hr. Nor do I want to fuel demand by dealing with those distributing obvious counterfeits.

You don't need to reverse engineer a mangled original. Rear sights sold as reproductions, not counterfeit, only cost about $30-40.

Have noted reproductions from many vendors with varying price and return policy.  Are all produced by the same manufacturer?  If not, is there a premium quality vendor?

I've heard that Numrich sells a better quality reproduction. It looks like they offer three different variations. I would suggest you contact them for specifics. Here's a link.
