Took the gas piston out of my Rock-Ola to clean it as it had never been done before and when I went to put it back in, it would not thread right.  Looked at the opening on the rifle and see that there is a small bit of thread smushing......clearly need to very carefully retap the thread rather than try to force the piston nut back in.  Does anyone know the thread diameter and pitch?

According to the Department of the Army Ordnance drawing #6147663 it's "1/2-32 NS-3". However, this may be an obsolete thread standard. The modern equivalent is a .500"-32 plug tap.

Kuhnhausen's shop manual also says .500" (1/2")-32 plug tap.

I am learning. There are so many very good reference books out there that collectors should own. But, I have found that if you want to work on your carbine, there is one that is a must own; Jerry Kuhnhausen's shop manual.

Was not aware of that book.  Found one on eBay and ordered it.  Much thanks for the info.  Can't wait to get it.
