I have a carbine with a manufacturer stamp of National Ordinance and in front of the rear sight is a serial number of 4247.  I can find no other markings on the weapon.  Where did it come from and when was it made?

Interested to hear if you have the Rimmer receiver or trigger housing.
Is your stock the light colored one like in the link?

Hi and welcome to the forum from New Mexico!

Based on the serial number it is probably a later manufacture. I don't know if we can determine a specific date but maybe with more info we can estimate generally when in National Ordinance's history your carbine might have been made. The use of castings and the style of barrels and operating slides changed as they evolved. I'm sure the author of the link shown above would really appreciate any info you might be able to share about your carbine. He is one of the Administrators of this site.

Finally had a chance to read all the data in the link provided, and it helps a lot.  From close examination it looks like mine was made between 62 and 68.  I'll try to post three pics I have.  The hand guard shown was an add on - I still have the wood original one that matches the rest of the stock.
