I bought an Inland S/N 9704xx, barrel dated 9/43. I completed the data sheet and sent it in. I've always wanted a old gun bought this at a gun show for $900,not knowing anything. It came with 2 stamped magazines (UN,U). P on front of palm, IO stock stamp, cannons, and AAR on left side. I have to shoot it as I mineral spirits the stock and going to oil it. Did I overpay?

Condition is everything, but if it shoots, sounds like you did ok.

Good mornin' and welcome to the forum.  If the stock is solid and it shoots good, then I think you got a fair deal.  Whoever reviews your Datasheet may help out, but date wise, the barrel may be original to the receiver and sounds like you got an Inland stock.  Got any pics?  We like pictures.

As already mentioned condition is everything, but in todays market $900 is probably a fair price and if you are happy with the carbine then that is all that matters.

Congrats on your first purchase and welcome to the club. The AAR marking signifies a post war rebuild. The AA stands for Augusta Arsenal. They reworked carbines after the war. JMO, but anything under 1k is a good price for an honest carbine.

The real question is how does it shoot?

Hi and welcome to the Collector's Forum from New Mexico!

Looks like you did okay. Could you post a closeup of the marking on the top of the barrel adjacent to the receiver? It might reveal some of the history of your carbine.

It's a F. I was told it could be a E, but it's a F. I was told inland bolt, recoil lug, stock, IBM trigger housing, Winchester butt pad. W on hammer? Two P stamped on barrel. S.G. in charging handle.

How do you join or is it automatic by sending in a data sheet? Is it normal for the person who reviews sheet to contact you?

It may take a week or two to get a reply or follow up questions. I got your email and will address it when I can as I have been on the road.

Welcome Aboard!

Your new carbine looks nice.  Hopefully, you will get many years of enjoyment from it.  But be careful, these carbines can become "addictive"! Wink

Now that is pretty interesting, did the CMP charge you anything for the serial # look up?
