Hi guys
Here are some links to a couple of early QHMC carbines I have. Interestingly most collectors assume the stake marks are indicative of adjustable rear sights..however this isn’t the case with QHMC.
The Carbine Club did an article on QHMC staking and these marks are common in this range, with other members reporting them. The rifle with sling was bought from a guy who was assuming it was a restoration due to the marks. It is completely original however . The rifle is about as nice as can be expected. Another hallmark of the early QHMC rIfles is the large very lightly stamped ordnance wheels on the stock. Both rifles are completely original with no sanding, original finish and cartouches. Notice the serial numbers and parts markings... also how the stake marks are positioned relative to the rear sight and only on the right side Greg https://imgur.com/gallery/hGwri https://imgur.com/gallery/tZoRa https://imgur.com/gallery/Y9sAI9V |

Greg,
Those are two beautiful Carbines! The wood on the one in the first set of pictures is amazing...looks almost unused. You have a couple winners. Thanks for the pics.

Those are spectacular! Thanks for posting.
So I'm not familiar with the hole in the bottom of the gas cylinder, what's the story with that? Thanks. |

That is the hole from drilling the gas port through the gas cylinder and into the barrel. Pretty sure all gas cylinders have that hole. http://www.uscarbinecal30.com/barrels.html Edited by W5USMC - Sep 12 2018 at 2:18pm |

When do you find the small cross cannon cartouches on QHMC Type 1 stocks? What S/N?

Jack, Have not looked in the CCNLs so I don't have a serial # range but WB says the large CC cartouche was used until fall 1943, along with RMC in the sling well. After fall 1943 the regular size QHMC cartouche with QRMC in sling well. Edited by W5USMC - Sep 12 2018 at 7:27pm |
