This is where I expose that I'm not a very good student of the Carbine. Looking at a late NPM in the 4.425 range, it has an N/A sight, .U. marked front sight, type I band, type II dogleg, Marlin barrel, the hammer appears to be HN or IN. N9 trig housing and AI blued flat bolt. Barrel has no drag marks from sight removal. Do these parts sound unlikely to others of the period? When did the type II band go into usage again?

4.425 to 4.432 along with some NPM U codes were produced before 4.075 to 4.101 group
And have been observed with underwood 9-43 barrels and marlin undated. Ccnl 125 and 373 Straight hammers appeared about Nov.43 Did NPM ever use t2 bands? Maybe someone can check WB for known transfers |

Sounds like a nice one ten. Haven’t seen many original NPM’s so far. Like hens teeth.

I have National Postal Meter 4283XXX with an IBM barrel and type 2 barrel band. It appears to be original.

Yes on NPM using type two bands, some from Inland for instance. The Underwood front sight could have possibly been on on the total of 10k total UEF shipped NPM in Oct. and Nov. of 43. That dating would also make the hammer make a lot more sense.

I also have what seems to be an original U code NPM, in the 4.36mm range. It has a Marlin barrel, a type III hammer and an un-marked type II band.

Does anyone know if Inland supplied any stocks to NPM in this range?
