My Father passed away this Summer, and we are in the process of identifying and valuing his estate.  There is an M1 Carbine in one of his safes that he told me he purchased from a GI in the early 1950's.
Local dealers in my area have been unable to provide any information, so I hoped someone on here might be able to help.

Above the receiver it is stamped US CARBINE CAL 30 MI, and toward the rear it is stamped NATL ORD INC with what I assume is a serial number of 3523.

There is a bayonet lug and the rifle appears to be in good condition other than  some scratches or grinding marks on top of the receiver that may have been from mounting a scope for my Mother to hunt deer with during the 60's?

I have photos, but don't know how to attach them.

If you click on the scoped carbine on the top of the forum page it will take you to the main page, on the left are various information links to include commercial carbine, below is a link to the national ordnance carbines.

I just sold a smooth metal handguard made by National Ord. So there parts are still in the system. It came with a new in the bag ventilated metal handguard. There were no makers name on the plastic bags tag.
