   Honestly, I've had great results using a wet, not dripping rag and a hot steam iron! 
Apply the hot iron over the wet rag on the stock, until no more dirt & grime is lifted from the stock. Watch out as the rag will get very hot! A silicone oven mit works well to alleviate the heat & steam risks! This also causes some small dents to pop back out!
