Is the recoil plate color supposed to be a match to the receiver, or closely match?  Is a big deal if it doesn't?  So far the three I have all are not close. lol

I would not expect a match unless they were done in the same batch of other parts.
Some manufacturers made their own recoil plates, other were made by subcontractors.
Think about it.

Thats true. And I'm guessing the assemblers didn't sit there and look for matching colors.  I was just wondering because sometimes you see pictures of ones that are exactly matched to receiver.  I have one that is bothering me though as its about black and the receiver is gray tone.

Of my 10 carbines the majority of the recoil plates are darker than the receiver some more than others, I have 1 that are lighter and 3 that are pretty close. The only one I have that I say is a perfect match is on my std prod which has a standard products marked recoil plate.

Same is true with handguards, they did not take time to match the color.
