I was looking for a picture in Algeria and found something showing the M1A1 close to action:
Here is a parachutist belonging to the 9ème RCP  (9eme Régiment de  Chasseurs  Parachutiste) seen in April - May 1958 during the SOUK ARHAS battle.
The Carbine is certainly a French Army rebuilt. If I am not mistaken this guy must be a servant of the light machine gun (FM Fusil Mitrailleur) M 24-29 as the magazine pouch seems to indicate.

For today, here is a picture from another place where the French Paras took their M1A1 carbine: Bizerte in Tunisia. In 1961 France send a contingent of troops to help defend the Naval Base over there.
Here is a group of paras in Bizerte during the fight. They could belong to the 2eRPIMa or the 3e RPIMa (Régiment parachutiste d'Infanterie de Marine) as both units jumped on Bizerte :
