Prototype or commercial hand guard
January 2016 PROTOTYPE HANDGUARD FOR IR SCOPE?…. by Louis Losi This hand guard was listed on an internet auction site, as possibly being a prototype piece for an early infrared scope for the carbine. Starting price was $199.99. Thankfully, no one was foolish enough to bid on it. The rivets are shiny (incorrect) and appear to be too close to the rear edge of the wood. And the bottom of the rivets are not flared the same way as seen on GI hand guards. The rivets appear to be solid. This is probably a commercial piece that was modified by someone for mounting a scope. This report serves only as a reminder for two things that collectors should always remember: 1. Always buy the gun (or the part). Never buy the story. 2. Take the time to do research on anything listed as rare or prototype. Edited by Lupus Dei - Dec 30 2015 at 7:27pm |

I remember seeing this sale----often and would chuckle every time I saw it. I hope the seller did not spend the money he thought he was going to make.
