I am working on a list of all the M3 fighting knifes, Looks like all are represented (except a Case that was sold) Most are in good to excellent M8 scabbards WW2 M4 bayonets, again seems most all are represented (except a Case that was sold) They are in like M8 or M8a1 scabbards Leather is from like new to lightly used. some show a little more wear but better than most that I have seen. We would like to offer these up to our members first, if not then off to auction If anyone is looking for a collector grade please PM me and I will move that up on the "take photos" list. If anyone is looking for post ww2, foreign, or commercial M4 bayonets please let me know and when I can get to those I will put them to the side. Take a look at WB3 for some of the commercials that will be available Edited by New2brass - Feb 15 2023 at 8:01pm |

M3....although a blade dated M4 might be possible. Some M3s were rebuilt as M4s and have the blade markings.

I am not completely up on the M3s, so maybe someone has something to add. 1943 there were 8 manufacturers of the M3 and they dated the blade. 1944 they still marked the blade but dropped the date. The marking may not be the same from 43 to 44. An example is the Utica. U.C.-1943 to UTICA/ In late 44? and 45 the name was moved to the guard. 9 manufacturers total, 24 basic variations to collect. This may not account for leather handle variations. I know of one M4 that has a M3 marked blade. It did not appear to be a rebuild. I have seen several rebuilds with M3 blades.

Guys, Sorry for falling behind on this as I got sidetracked and other things that needed attention first. The good news is I found Larry's notes on which M3 knives he had on display. He lists leather scabbards that went with them, that were displayed separately. I need to sort and get estimates. Hopefully this week I can get to it. There are some knife/bayo books that are hard to find. Some signed. |
