Amongst all the extra stuff I got with my "new to me carbine" http://www.uscarbinecal30.com/forum/new-to-me-carbine_topic6332.ht was a flash hider. In the attached pictures does this appear to be an original and if so is there a collector value to it? Does it actually go to a carbine or to another weapon? Somehow I would feel a little silly affixing to my carbine.

That is a legitimate accessory for the M1/M1A1/M2/M3 carbine. Your example was made by Underwood in the early 1950s. Same Underwood that made carbines during the war. They are quite collectible though not rare.

When I bought mine it came with a flash hider, the previous owner had shot with it and the poi did not change if it is on or off, I have mine hanging on the wall just for fun, you dont see many over here in Europe. I have seen a different shape of flash hider for the .30M1 carbine once, not sure if that is original and it looks more like a compensator than a flash hider. |
