You are correct except for the word Trench. The two types of combat shotguns having 20 inch barrels and cylinder bores are Shotgun, Riot Type and Shotgun, Riot Type with Bayonet Attachment and Hand Guard.

RIOT SHOTGUN WITH BAYONET ATTACHMENT AND HANDGUARD TRIVIA
Two bayonets have been used with the "trench" shotgun. Identify the two bayonets.

I feel that one has to be a M1917.

Agree with DogDoc M1917 during WWII and the M7 during Vietnam.
You can read more about the "trench gun" here.

You are correct, the Model 1917 bayonet was used on all "trench" shotguns with bayonet attachment and hand guard. U.S. gun companies produced British Pattern 14 rifles, for the .303 British cartridge, and bayonets for Britain and, later, the same rifle and bayonet for the U.S. with the Model 1906 cartridge chambering. The bayonet was designated Model 1917. I'm uncertain why the M1917 bayonet was chosen for use with the "trench" shotgun. The second bayonet is unrelated to bayonet use on riot shotguns with bayonet attachment and hand guard.

You, also, are correct. The M7 bayonet, used on the M16 rifle, was used on the military Mossberg 500 shotgun having a barrel band with a bayonet lug.

You wouldn't have known it then, but if you bought one of the mail order M1 rifles in this pre 1968 Gun Control Act advertisement, you were buying what would eventually be a collectible and valuable Lend Lease M1 rifle.

A clue that might help to solve this triva is that the rifled slug shot shells are Winchester manufacture.

Good answer but incorrect. The trivia answer is related to sporting production. The star identifies rifled slug shot shell production. But why was there a need to identify rifled slug shot shell production?

The answer to the trivia question is in the December 1971 American Rifleman. The star identifies a rifled slug, no star identifies a round ball slug.

ANSWER TO TRIVIA QUESTION
This slotted item is part of the Bridgeport Rig made by the Bridgeport Gun Implement Co. of Bridgeport Conn. The slotted item would be attached, slot forward, to a belt and the accompaning screw with projecting screw head replaced the hammer screw on the Colt 1873 Peacemaker. The screw head would slide back in the slot with attached gun. The gun could be slid forward and removed from the slot to fire or swiveled to fire. In the 1980s replicas were available. A link for additional information is included.

Good one Louis,
I was wondering if it might be a attachment that fit on a M1910 style or later belt. That could use the hangers if needed. But with the shaped curve on the back to form fit over the hip, it didn't add up.
Spent the rest of my searching looking at it possibly being some type of inner waist band gadget or outer holster attachment (Hip or Shoulder).
The split Leaf springs really confused me...

Thought of a Pivot, Aim and Shoot never entered my mind. Might have seen one on the old tv show Wild Wild West. Wink

Cheers,

M1 RIFLE(GARAND) TRIVIA
All M1 rifle en bloc clips loaded and issued by the U.S. military were  with the top cartridge on the right, not left, in the en bloc clip. Was this deliberate or just a "toss of the coin"?

Incorrect answer. The 7th round stoppage, in some M1 rifles, was caused by an error in machining the receiver which damaged the guide ribs. Most rifles with the damaged guide ribs were repaired during overhaul, ending the 7th round stoppage problem.
