Does anything jump out to say these markings may be fake? Granted the seller does state "These AKI marked bayonets are said to be old commercial copies"

It's a "Knive" without a scabbard. Pronounced "naive" ;)

Yep, "Knive" is the obvious giveaway but there is another one a bit less apparent.

Sorry for the delayed response. I just saw this as I didn't get the notification of the post (and several others).

If you still have the barrel, can we see a pic looking back at the front of the gas piston cylinder where it attaches to the barrel and about 3" in front of it? Also a pic of the breach showing the entrance to the chamber.

This looks like it may be an insert, where a barrel is milled down and inserted into the rear of a demilled barrel. Need to see the above to determine if this is the case.

the swage on the gas cylinder is a clue. This is probably a Green Mountain barrel or one the fakes made by L&S or Riverfake

Unfortunately this sold BIN and could not get a better picture of the breech. I am thinking a SG made barrel that was ground and they added the PW.
If the buyer reads this post maybe we can get some measurements.

Winchester did not use a swagged cylinder.
Companies that did was
Inland
BLC
Saginaw Saginaw location
Rockola
Buffalo Arms

The area that caught my eye is the barrel in front of the gas piston. Maybe not as what it appears to be which is why I'd like to see more pics. Obviously not available.

This prompted me to add a post to the forum showing the various gas piston areas for the commercial manufacturers. Often this area is unique and can ID who made it or used it. I've avoided doing breakdowns comparing all the various commercial parts to one another but barrels are worth having for future reference.

Have a look at the Federal Ordnance barrel and you will see what caught my eye above.

Back in February we talked about S-A making a special stock for future collectors.
Check out this baby, made under special contract with the Los Angeles Armory!

Any guesses on who the seller of this Saginaw is? We will give him a bit of credit this time though because he included this line in his listing. "Possibly the stock is a reproduction" Hmm only possibly?

Creative Story Dept
USMC Modification

Auction Description
"Carbine has a U.S. Marine Corps attributed modification performed to the rear sight with a large open V notch cut in place of what was originally a closed peep, as a means of making the sight picture similar to the M1903 Springfield rifle then in service during World War II with the U.S. Marines, and also to improve visibility in low light conditions. Reportedly, the U.S. Marine Corps received approximately 330,000 M1 Carbines during World War II, which is about 5% of the total production between all of the contractors. Most of the U.S. Marine Corps issued examples would have seen hard use in the most important battles of the World War II Pacific Theater, with very few positively identified U.S. Marine Corps issued examples today. The V notch sight modification is considered to be a possible telltale feature linking an M1 Carbine to being a Marine issued example and has been noted on some of the few examples today that have known Marine provenance, making this a desirable example to the discriminating U.S. Military arms collector. Rock Island Auction Company recently sold a Johnson Model 1941 semi-automatic rifle with similar U.S.M.C. attributed sight modifications"
