Pretty pleased with the new shooter. Ordered G-VG with lug and have worked a few hours on it. Before posting much for details, I have a couple or three initial questions.
This Inland build has a Saginaw SG sub-contracted receiver, from info here this is about 1 in 46,6xx rare. Inland's s/n range matches up for this sub, per this site. How rare is that really? Barrel is Inland, 12-3. And ME per the M2 ball bullet test, shows just very slightly less of jacket forward of the cannelure than it shows behind it.
Overton type 3 walnut stock. On the HG: I'd like to imagine seeing an IO or HI in the usual spot but all that is seen is a faint "I" if that. Profile of the HG's front looks more like the Winchester bevel than it does the "other" pic on this site. It is 2-rivet, and deep groove. Inside, there's a couple of real strong mill marks in the op slide relief area, as if the operator parked his tool deep a couple times. Did Winchester not mark some HGs? The firing pin is a type 1 in an IO marked round bolt with no "X" stamp on top. Ejector is maybe odd in a round bolt, it is two-bevel. Was wondering the why of both of these in a later bolt. The operating slide has a strongly struck small "W" and a larger and fainter seriffed "N" inside the box. It is type IV. Winchester? I'll get to posting a more detailed description soon, and maybe more than one pic at a time if I can figure that out. |

Seems there are a lot of SG Inlands around. W marked guards are seen with no marks. If the right side is a sharp knee to the and there are Gucci looking swirls on the underside at that step up, it's prob Win. Sometimes it's stamped on the opposite side than they're usually stamped. HI will be stamped vertically.

Is it a SI or SG code? Saginaw was assigned 240,000 numbers in the first block. They ran over their serial numbers by about 11,000 numbers. SG receivers were also used in the second block

The SG mark is at the left front of the receiver, hidden by wood. S/N is 31588xx.
Midway likely could have made some more profit on selling subs, just as they did with Underwood variants, had they lifted BRs out of their stocks.

ah, very good, I thought you were talking first block.
Yes less were used in the second block.. It is interesting in that SG was also producing receivers for them selves and they put SG on all the receivers they were making at that point so they could use them or send them to Inland if needed. Layer they dropped the SG

About extra value, probably not in this case. There are also AO for IBM that's heel stamped where everyone can see it that they didn't call out. Those haven't shown any likelihood to be more valuable either. Personally, for me, the subcontract Underwoods don't only hold a special role except when Winchester took them. The Singer B codes mean something to other people, and I acknowledge that.
