I like looking for wear patterns before I do a complete clean up.
I hope it's a nice one for you. Can I come shoot? I'll bring my own and the ammo we need....... But wait a minute... Is it cold down there ? How far from Alexandria, VA to Greenville ?

You'd be better off stopping to visit with me Painter. Might be a bit chillier here, but its a lot closer! Plus I've got a nice selection of carbines, an M1917. 03-a3, Garand, and a bunch of military handguns to play with and plenty of ammo for all!

To start its filthy, its been sitting and its covered in filth. So this this is precleaning. None of this is rust, its just ethopian dirt, lol. The stock is rough but the odd thing i cant find markings on it at all. Also the flip sight is pushed to the right and it is pinned not sure why it would be pinned on the right side. Thoughts? I need to get a better photo posting site too...

Nice looking IBM. BTW, it's too damn expensive to shoot and it's supposed to rain there this weekend.

something i noticed is when i have the slide back, and i turn the rifle upside down and vice versa, the piston moves freely in and out
Does that mean theres an issue with the piston? |

No, on the contrary, a free moving piston is good!

You made a good selection. Love those IBM's!
Have you been able to find any markings in stock sling well? Maybe share some pics taken outside in natural light.

Alarming question. It's not so revealing why but it's staked where it is because that's where the factory determined zero to be. Don't considering moving it, even if you shoot it and it's off. If you shoot it and it moves, make sure it goes back to where it's staked. Once it's not, it's a parts gun. Somewhere on the site I posted pics of a receiver staked in a manner where the sight would have been hanging way off the right side of the dove tail, not even fully installed. It had an 11-42 Rockola barrel (I think, from memory) and perhaps it was one of the RMC barrels with straightness problems.

will do
I was just curious why it would be on the right side. But that makes sense from where the factory found zero. I actually saw another photo of an ibm and the sight was over to the right like mine. Its locked in and doesnt move. I wont move it for sure. Thanks for the info!

It looks tightly staked on both sides, so it's doubtful it would ever move. Four point staking is seen on IBM. Pics are pretty decent. If you get a drop of Raw Linseed Oil and use your palm to aggressively work it into the right side where a cartouche should be you might see a stamp stain. Take it in the Sunlight, point the muzzle to your left side with the butt in your right hand and look down from the top into the grain sheen for the stamp. I have to use readers now to see clearer up close.
