I purchased an Inland about 8 years ago and it has spent the majority of the time sitting in my safe. I pulled it out recently and rediscovered a question that never got answered. I've looked through the forum history and couldn't find anything addressing it so here goes.....
Inland hand-stamped M1 receiver, 6908xxx serial number, and a 12-45 barrel. It has all late features with type III stock. The stock has Inland's big ordnance wheel on the right side and a vertical P-1 in the sling well. I bought this with the belief that it is close, if not all original. Since buying it, I have read that P stamped stocks are replacements. Is the stock original or a replacement? If it is a replacement, why would it have the Inland ordnance wheel? thanks

I would have the same questions. Any chance you could post some pictures of the ordnance wheel and the markings in the sling well? Also, post a picture of the recoil plate area of the stock looking straight down from above. Some replacement stocks have a distinctive appearance here. Maybe we can figure this out.
Wow Wayne!! We're on the same wavelength. |

Is your barrel a 2-45? That's about the date I'd expect to see for that serial. I don't believe Inland barrels were later than 8-45, and anything past 3-45 is likely an M2. |

You're correct the barrel is dated 2-45.
Sorry for the confusion.

The cross cannons look authentic to me. I think it's a P-1. I base this on the character spacing, clear curved part of the 'P', '-'. Is the barrel channel long (4 1/16) or short?
I've also seen reference to P-1 being a replacement stock but that certainly doesn't go along with the CC. |

Yep, I agree GotSnlB28, after looking at it again it sure does look like a P-1.

Does the 1 look like a Serif I to anyone?
It's hard to see but got me to thinking about the transfer stocks. Like the RMC with Serif I to Inland. And I have a upside down marked RSG with Serif I with Inland CC. These are early Hi-wood stocks though. Here the P and 1 don't seem to be oriented like we usually see them. And almost look like they were scratched in rather than stamped. Could this be a late P stock that went to I (Inland) Thus the real looking to me Inland CC. Or possibly a real P-1 stock that went in the 'Stock Lateral Support Pile' and ended up at Inland (the CC) and used at a time Inland was switching over to beefier stocks...... Some how some way that stock went to Inland IMO. But damn if I can explain it. I've gotta stop watching that Ancient Aliens show on Friday nights !! Just another mystery I guess. Ch-P777

the P-1 marked stock was reported in CCNL 86 with an Inland CC It was also reported in CCNL 218 non potbelly type 4 stock (selector cutout) that was birch with walnut stain. Under the butt plate were 2 additional holes. The newsletter makes a correlation to IBM stock, but who else had stocks with the two additional holes

Just wondering if you ever got the butt plate off? does the stock have the cutout for a selector switch?
