Hello- Question- If my S’G’ falls between these serial ranges- is it assumed that these features are potentially present, but don’t indicate sharing of receivers between the Grand Rapids and Saginaw Plants? My rifle has several of the inconsistencies listed, but I was wondering if / where it fits in. Apologies if this info isn’t known yet/ or if at all.

I have been in and out of M1 carbines since the late 70s and I don't remember ever seeing a 58 or 6 mil Saginaw M1 Carbine. What is the highest serial number reported in that block? I am sure it is posted in the Carbine Club Newsletters but I don't have them handy anymore. There must not have been a lot of them manufactured.

@ bigheavy, as far as ordnance was concerned Saginaw was one entity with two factories.
It is theorized the first delivery of SG marked receiver were delivered out the the GR plant.
Later there were receivers sent to GR to have the serial numbers applied.
There is much more to the full story and why we are looking closer at the certain serial number ranges to establish what may have actually taken place.

@ kar, the highest serial was reported as 5,87x,xxx
that information as well as information of some of the SG factory receiver questions stems mostly from CCNL 357 which 19 pages were devoted to serial numbers and anomalies.

Everyone, If you see a Saginaw anywhere you can report this information.
If you see it at an auction site and do not want to transpose the information please post or drop me an email or PM with a link and I will take care of the rest.

on the note of serial numbers, do not forget the "Serial numbers to look for and report"

@ Smokepole, I missed you post. We are only looking for receivers used at the Saginaw plants at this time, but thank you for asking.

@ Johnny, Are you sure your left rear receiver detail is a rounded ear?

Square corner to the ear is the meaning there. Thank you. Under IP they ground the corner rounded to follow the circular tooling hole.
My sig: Seen an IP or S'G'? Add it to my registry. We'll check consecutives.
