@Gotsnl....,
Agree the Butt plate has plenty of overhang.
Stock has been messed with, that's a fact.

The stock appears to have a clear resin repair (?) to a missing chunk at the bottom left of the boxed WRA/GHD. Where the dripping run and raw scrape travel down toward the oiler and butt plate.

Also on the right side of the oiler slot there is a triangular section that must have pulled up and he's tried resin or glue/putty to secure it back down. Look close at the top of the oiler slot and down about 3/4 of it, you'll see it shaped like a > with the point of the > pointing towards the boxed WRA/GHD.
That area has been heavily sanded and you can see the touched up color is much darker than the rest of the stock. I think only the areas they tried to repair have been sanded.
Had they sanded the entire stock I'd expect to see far fewer scratches and a better overall appearance on the complete stock.

Maybe he wasn't happy with the way those repairs came out. So seems he tried a colored wood putty to fill a couple other spots on the right.
Both on the lower right side near the trigger housing area... 1st between the escutcheon nut and rear of the trigger housing opening. The 2nd low on the right about even with the mag well opening.

More patch filling on the left hand side- Looks to have used the same colored putty on the left side at the forward edge of the tapered sling well cut and deep inside the sling well. The one inside the Sling well might be extra filler for the > shaped patch glued back down on the other side.

I compared the stamps with 9 different photo files I have here of my own and about 5-6 files Marcus just shared with me of early Winchesters.
Granted the Ebay pictures are poorly done but I'm confident the Stamps are real.
Shame it wasn't someone with skills that could have done the repairs correctly.

Who ever did the 'Work' was smart enough to not sand over the stamps.
But the Seller only has 5 gloomy pictures up. So that's $100 a picture X 5 = $500 stock plus shipping.
And I quote part of his description:
"This is one of the rarest World War II carbine rifle’s the least amount made of all rifles."

Never ends does it??

Good Weekend to you

VR,
Ch-P777

J saved and rotated the right side pic, the full stock pic. Looking at it with the advantage of what you guys have posted, the overhang looks like it's caused by sanding the top of the stock for the last couple of inches so much that it reshaped it so it doesn't fit the plate right anymore. The heavy drip under the WRA stamp sticks out prominently too. There's a difference in sheen behind the stamps where it was worked over. Maybe it's acetone that was used.

Painter, ten, seems like a likely explanation of what happened with this one. It's a shame, valuable stock if it had been treated right. I don't have an early boxed example, but I dug out a sharp unboxed and the CC detail matches. Lines up with all your comparisons.
And yep a total crap description.. I won't be investing the $500 lol but I have saved off the first picture for future reference.

GotSnlB28,
If you searched Milsurps, typing in WRA 1,030,621 you'll find the pictures of my best Boxed WRA/GHD and CC.

If photobucket doesn't still have them held hostage.
I believe some pics are stored on the Surps server.

I haven't been on there in a while....... tired of threads getting locked down by a particular Mod.

Was just discussing this guy on the CMP Forum, until it was locked down.
I see that hiddensprings2020 has a Ultra Rare Springfield 'Non Potbelly' Type IV Stock. Long barrel channel with M2 cut. He states that this is the 1st he's seen in his 10 year career with the Thousands of Stocks that have come thru his shop. Note how Razor thin the right wall is.

$350.00 + Shipping and this baby could be yours !

His Restoration Service- Even though he say's Thousands,
Lets say Roach had 1 thousand stocks come thru in his 10 years.
That's 100 per year, roughly 2 a week he's sanding the Hell out of, Patching, stripping, putting Epoxy on, staining, for a finish I think he's using Painter in a can- some type of spray clear like Acrylic, prepping and parking the pitted metal and adding multiple stampings (I know he loves his circled P proof stamp).... boxing up and shipping. Owes material, Ebay listing fees and final value fee (which includes shipping cost). Prolly missed a few steps, it's late I'm tired but at $139 or so a stock....... I still say he needs a real job. Even part time at minimum wage would be a big income booster. 1/2 his labor time is spent bending buttplates backward to get them on.

HE REJECTED my offer tonight of $1.99 and my request for free shipping.
Think I'll become a 'Spammer Bidder' Tomorrow I'll offer less and request Free Shipping Wink

I'm no fan.

What was your second offer? seems he pulled the listing.
hmm, I wonder if he is on these forums?

Also interesting is that his feedback has 3 from the last month, yet somehow his sold/completed listings only show two listings.

So... Charlie, your math is wrong..... or he is somehow gaming the eBay system.

Interesting is one sold auction was for his service, the other was a sold stock. From that listing
The recoil plate is a original WW2 "PR-B" stamped plate, and all other stamps are original, or enhanced originals.

so all other stamps are original or enhanced originals.
So it seems that already some are discussing restamped and enhanced stamps.

Interesting is a few weeks ago I questioned a seller of a stock that appeared to be a type 4 what the markings in the slingwell were. The stock was devoid any stamps, but appeared to be the same finish as the one discussed here.

I truly wonder how new collectors feel when down the line the reality sets in that they may have paid a collector stock price an got a NYC street vendor Gucci

I would presume any person singing his praises to be him or one of his agents. Especially when you consider the new crop of buyers brought on by the Midway Carbines.

No way to really calculate his feedback, unless you know 'All' his user names.
I'm sure once he makes a Sale, the buyers are just dealing outside of the auction sites.
The poster on the CMP made sure he put in plenty of free advertising for him.

No more offers accepted. Buy now price dropped to $290.00

Sounds like the CMP thread was specifically to promote his service. Lots of new unsheared Carbine owners who don't know the dos and dont's yet.

As soon as I posted the OP should be given credit for having the FA stamped in the sling well.
I see he asked the Mods to close the thread. That it had ran it's course.

Slick..

ETA: Same OP currently pushing Repro slings and stock pouch.

After I saw your post here Charlie I made some edits to my reply over there.  I didn't notice it was the same OP in the two threads
I'll give the benefit of the doubt that he's simply got different perspective - more like a reenactor - than a collector.  I see similar thinking in the collector car hobby.  People buy new 'improved' or deal with venders that they have been warned about.  At some point I have to shrug and so OK, your car.

I am glad you got your post in before the thread was closed.    Its too bad the guy doesn't initial or somehow mark all his rework.

All this reminds me of The Furniture Doctor by George Grotz.  Do you have that book?

Description seems well thought out by seller. Hope the buyer knew what they were getting.

Has this seller been discussed, Fish2mar

I think anyone reading the description can come to a conclusion. No need to discuss and let the seller that has ruined over 500 stocks know Wink

Just noticed m1carbineman from Aurora, Missouri has a couple of his 'Works' on Auction. Pretty much carefully described as I remember before. The RMC is a Buy Now. The WRA is also a Buy Now with a Best Offer included.
