Recently seen a Davidson Import that had the Serial Number stamped on the Receiver Ring.
It's the correct #, matching under the rear adj sight and # stamped on the left side of stock. I know about stamping the Serial # forward if the rear one was covered by adj sight. Question...... Has anyone seen the Receiver ring having the serial number stamped on it before ? Thx, Charlie-Painter777

Well Charlie, I haven’t, but neither have I seen near as many as most forum members here.
I will say it is a very neat job.

That sure looks roll marked, rather than hand stamped...Very interesting.

I'm wondering if this Carbine may have been marked in this manner to accommodate a scope that blocked the view of the normal serial number location?

I guess the first thing to ask is if these are import marked and if the same.
This would start a baseline if they came from the same place. Also if any stock markings or features might help

Nice find @ ncin1911 !
Now I've seen 2. The Auction for the Underwood doesn't state if it's a Import. And it's stock isn't serial # stamped. The one I posted is a DAVISONS marked Import, says the owner. Matching serial # on left side of stock, receiver ring front and back. I haven't been able to get any more info from the owner/poster of this NPM. |

I have sent a message to seller of Underwood asking for more detail. The listing does state no import marks but did anyone look under things?

I cannot say for certain its Davidson's, But I have an import marked where the stamp is on the barrel obscured by the barrel band. Seller or auction company may have missed it.
Their description is misleading. At the time of manufacture the company was Underwood Elliot Fisher and they produced business machines as well. Yes the headquarters were in NY but so were sales offices. The factories used for production were located in Connecticut. There is a newsletter on imports and where they came from. From Painters picture is seems to be Israeli. Yet the auction I do not see the numbers on the stock. This is not to say that the stock was not swapped out since imported. Nice looking piece of wood.

The NPM I first posted about above with the serial number on the Receiver ring, matching the serial number on the stock and the normally placed serial # behind the rear sight is marked under the barrel: DAVIDSONS GREENSBORO, NC. It has a Marlin barrel with the Marlin stamp messed up.
Anyone seen MARLIN stamped like this before? Charlie-P777

Wonder how his barrel is proofed? Is there a punch, a P or both? Yeah, I've seen one like it. |

Ten,
And now I've seen 3 Marlins like these... Add that to the Receiver ring serial #'s makes this worth the admission price. Not sure what I've learned..... but can say down the road: "I've seen that before." I'm been waiting on a reply from him about a P and Punch mark. For now, thought to be original Marlin on NPM 4,427,xxx. Wish I could see if it has the Bomb on the side of the Gas Cylinder and the number you sometimes find on top of the barrel..... just forward of gas cylinder (IIRC) Thx Jt and Ten. CH-P777 " Frampton " = Jam Band ? |

I just learned there's frequently a number on these. Mine is a 3 and, yes, there is a blaming bomb on the right side like you said. A skinny bomb. This barrel is very fine. I noticed that mine has had the milling rings removed and his and the CMP auction one haven't.
