the stock has been sanded, possibly wet as well.
Take a look at the bottom of a nice handguard to see what the pores should look like. The streak of sanding over the CC as well as the right trunnion had me a bit concerned. tops of lame missing are to be expected due to the curvature of the stock. For comparison  @Charlie, pic was from from PS monthly Magazine which was a Postscript to technical manuals. I guess someone had time on their hands to put that together  It would seem that the question came up a lot with the soldiers. Consider this, would ordnance want the soldier to have to think of such a mundane item as how to put a oiler back in the stock? If there was an up side I would think we would have seen T cut stocks instead of I cut stocks. I have never looked for it, but is there a correct side to put in the trigger housing and hammer pin in? they fit both ways! (sans early TH pin)

Dan, as far as the hammer pin goes, I have read in one of the TM's maybe TM-9-1276 that the hammer pin is installed from left to right so that the left side of the stock holds it in place. This is also stated under TH parts on the main page. "The hammer pin was designed to be inserted into the trigger housing from left to right. The width of the "shelf" below the hammer pin on the left side of the trigger housing was designed for the stock to hold the pin in place when the carbine is assembled." As far as the trigger housing pin goes, I don't think it matters and have never seen it published anywhere, however the recessed TH pin hole on the right side of type IV housings would suggest it was meant to be installed from right to left. |
