Nice tree-o, if you could take some pics of the Winchester, I too have a '7' Winchester, would like to compare receiver stampings especially the forward part where the Cal M1 is, mine is so lite stamped is hard to make out.

Like yours, the markings on the barrel ring are much lighter than the marking behind the rear sight. I have been told that this is common for this vintage of Winchester.

Fred, Just curious about the Winchester. How is the barrel band marked i.e. "C" or ---. Also, the stock appears to have the cross cannons cartouche only. I'm looking at a Winchester myself in that serial number range and had questions regarding the barrel band and stock stampings. Thanks in advance and best of luck with your new acquisitions.

The type 3 barrel band is an "AI" which is not uncommon as Winchester was running out of the sub-contracted "C" bands. The stock marking only has the late crossed cannons and a "W" in the sling well.
Thanks for the nice comments.

I don't think they ever 100 percent confirmed WRA was running out of Cowles bands, but it makes way more sense than not they used some from other manufacturers.

Thanks for taking the time to identify the markings on the stock and barrel band - much appreciated. Again, best of luck with those great looking carbines.

Does your 4,9 Inland have a barrel with B.I. marked on the barrel flat between the receiver and the gas cylinder? I owned two 4,9s and both had B.I. barrels at one time. I still have one and a 1,5 QHMC that have B.I. barrels. I wish I had keep the other one too, I think it was the most accurate M1 Carbine that I ever owned.

That is a Inland barrel and not a Brown barrel with all the usual Inland markings.
