Is The Special Edition known as The Special Report as referred to in the CCNL index?
Did it come with CCNL #335? If I'm able to order/pay for 2 of these back issues of #335 CCNL's, will the Special Reports (x2) come with the order? Copied/pasted below from the CCNL Index PDF: 335. Singer Manufacturing name, Inland inspection manual part 1, Low and high serial
numbers on record, WWII carbine production summary, Unusual parts markings (more,
since NL 332), El Salvador carbines (more, since NL 333), Recoil plate and stock fit.
Special Report (un-numbered issue, re: the 2006 Birmingham gunshow carbine display). Thx, Charlie-Painter777

Do Appreciate your reply old59porsche,
I didn't become a member until after the shows that Paul and the others worked so hard on. I still have the last 2 Newsletters that would ever be sent out before we went to a Web set up.... still un-opened. I'm saving them.... like NOS in the Wrap. I'll look through the index and look for This Special Edition, in hopes of being able to buy a couple. You've been a big help just letting me know that it wasn't a numbered Newsletter...... I had no way to know. I'll try contacting Marty and see what can be done...... Legally by all means. I do understand from years of being a member and working with David B, BQ, Chris A, Marcus, Mike from New Zealand... etc that all falls under Copyright. I wasn't trying to sneak around the barn... I'll use the front doors. Again Appreciate your help and your service, Charlie Holland Painter777

The story was written by Richard Van Damme and appeared as a "Special Edition" Summer 2006. The newsletter had no volume #, and it was in the form of a booklet rather than individual pages. The pages were numbered SE-1 thru SE-12, featuring 25 pictures taken at the show. Besides Paul Imbragulio, the organizer, pictures of Doug Yates, the three judges: Larry Ruth, Ron Wellman and Martin McVay, Marty Black, Richard Van Damme the author of this story, Richard Wright, Gary Lahrman and Phillip Taylor appeared. Though not identified, I appear as a part of a group photograph. The booklet is copyrighted and I will not reproduce without permission.

Does anyone remember which Carbine Club Newsletter that had a front page picture of this show and crowd?
I believe it was the first show, but could have been the 2nd year. I wasn't a member of the Club at that time so I don't have the Newsletter. I ask because a Dear friend on mine recently passed away who was there and pictured among the crowd on that front page, he called it ."Priceless" He was a long time member of The Carbine Club and volunteered at the CMP. His name: Charles Waldrop from Birmingham, AL. One of the Original Bhama Gang. I'd greatly appreciate any help. I'm hoping to be able to buy a couple copies. One I can keep, the other to send to his family. VR Charlie

The Military History Society of Rochester is a small museum run by one curator. Larry Ruth, author of the War Baby series on the carbines, lives outside Rochester and has been working with them occasionally for many years. They do have their own small collection and Larry contributes some of his collection "on loan" for their changing displays.
Not sure if or how often they display at a gun show. Larry usually attends the main one in Rochester and another in Syracuse. He's done his own small displays at both. The small museum is located about a half mile west of the old National Postal Meter/Commercial Controls facility that was located on Culver between Atlantic and Humboldt. The NPM main building has had a superficial rework and last I heard it was being partitioned into a bunch of smaller office spaces. Jim |

Found this searching for information about NPM. Think I've seen it previously, but not completely sure. Has anyone else seen this exhibit?

Paul did a great job indeed. I'd imagine the others were just as well done. Have seen pics of a few others out west and and Inland expose at a show though I can't remember where. Cheers to those who put on this kind of stuff.
The best part of the above pics is the Rock-Ola cartouche I've never seen. Great stuff! |

I thought by now someone would identify the the white gloved judges. Left to right Martin McVay, Ron Wellman and Larry Ruth. The White gloved gentleman with a carbine on each arm is the show's sponsor Paul Imbragulio. I missed that show but caught the one the next year. Great show Paul, well done!

The next AGCA show is Oct 13th/14th at the Hoover Met, in Hoover, Alabama. I'd be willing to rent a booth or two, and provide it for a display only purpose.
I won't allow myself to believe that this type of event could never take place again now that I learned the first one existed. I couldn't have dreamed up a more exciting, educational, and ultimately enjoyable event than what is posted in the OP. I'd love to do a three day event...Friday to Sunday. On Friday we could organize a shoot N greet Carbine shooting session at Talladega Shooting Park, and give attendees a great chance to see the new shooting facility and check out the Garands and various wares inside the Talladega West store. On Sat. we could have a swap meet, display expo, and perhaps even a dedicated booth attended by carbine experts in the field of assembly, disassembly, and repair. Folks could get their troublesome carbines fixed, checked, assembled, disassembled, etc. with headspace gauges, armorer's tools, ME/TE gauges, etc. for a fee or not. We could also do an authenticating service at this booth, where folks could get questionable rifles, and parts checked out for authenticity for a fee or not. On Sunday we could have the grand finale with the actual competition, and judging of carbines by a vetted, expert panel. Include multiple categories like Best Carbine, Best Collection, Best Variant, Best Shooter, etc. So we could either try and approach this through going with an existing show/organization like the Oct AGCA show, or draw the entire thing up from scratch and do it ourselves. |

In years prior to this show, many club members met in Birmingham annually to show, tell and trade. Other pics of 2006 and 2007 shows have many old time collectors, many of whom are not with us any more.

Charles, it might take a while to put together, but I like the idea. Dave T. might make three.
First step: A safe, secure way to display. @oldporshce: I've read Ron Wellman was there as well. |

Correction: The three judges were: Martin McVeigh, Ron Wellman, and Larry Ruth. I was there with 3 of my carbines on display. It was a great effort by Paul I. much at his own expense. All the Alabama club did was provide space. I doubt that such a gathering of wonderful carbines will ever take place again.

If the club ever wants to display at an NRA Annual Meeting, I have participated in 9 Thompson displays at various NRA convention venues, and could offer insight on the costs, and how to approach and manage a display at such an event. There are also other very good venues, such as OGCA, Michigan Antique Arms Association, and a couple of other regional shows that welcome displays. Participation costs range widely.
