Do you know what this is? Could it be USGI, or perhaps post war. Maybe nothing to do with the carbine .30 cal. round shown for scale. post your answers below. It's a clip used to hold the oiler in place when shipping a carbine without a sling. Those oiler holders are believed to be West German or Dutch. There was a tag on a stock with one of these that said “Bruikbaar” which is “Serviceable” See NLs 222-4 and 223-4.
For those who said M1A1 rattle clips, look at the cheek plate and visualize how it is supposed to clip in. there would be interference on ring on cheek plate which holds oiler and the oiler clip in this device would also hit the plate.

Greetings!
If I am not mistaken, this is a device that is used to hold the oiler in the slot in the butt of the carbine stock without having to install the sling. I remember seeing these when Larry Horner and I went to KY and picked out a bunch of Bavarian carbines. I think it is of German origin. I actually still have several of those. Robert |

This is the Oiler-Clip that was designed to prevent the oiler from rattling in the faceplate of the M1A1 carbine. Reference "War Baby Comes Home" page 578.

Howdy,
I don't see my previous post. I am almost positive that this is a device used to hold the oiler in the sling slot without having to install the sling. I think german or bavarian in design. I even have a couple of them. Robert Lacy |

Oops! Forgot to add what it's for. Holds the oilier in the stock when you are not using a sling. That's what I read anyway. I'd like to see it in action.
