I mailed the
order in to CMP as the number of Bavarian returns had all but dried up. The
same day I got the e-mail “DBU” they were missing from the order sheets saying
that they were sold out. I had ordered a Rack Grade and was looking to receive
a pretty beat up carbine. Much to my surprise what I got, in my opinion, was a
miss-marked SG.
It is a 6
digit serial number, 999453, putting it in the first full production run
100-999999. High wood, “I” cut stock, type 1 barrel band, … well I’ll post pics
of both the Carbine Club Data sheet I sent in and my parts break down list. MW
is 1, the bore near perfect, it is a great shooter.

Thanks Chris. I got really lucky on this one.
I picked up the sling on my 2nd visit to the CMP South Store after I got the carbine. There was a box of Bavarian slings in a corner that I spent several minutes digging through. I picked the one with some guys name on it. |

Did you figure out how to post picture?
I was drooling over a leather sling that someone posted on CMP. Next time I won an auction I asked if I could order two Bavarian Carbine slings. Turns out I got what I think are Garand Slings. Seems the leather pile is whatever they grab.

Want to know a real shame? When the last large amounts of Bavarians were coming in and I had a chance to go to the source store, they had gotton so tired of removing them manually, they were just cutting them off and throwing them away. What a shame. I also saw 2 5 gal buckets of coded oilers of all makers. Sure miss those old days!
