Acronyms, Definitions
Terms, words, Shorthand etc.

There are literally hundreds in use today on the various social networks. I am trying to keep it to those specific to those that would be in common usage on these forums.

We do get some people that are not computer savvy as well as many new to firearms.
So when we use these shortcuts some may have trouble following the conversation.

If you have any suggestions to add to the list please post below

@ Wayne: NOS  IIRC pertained to things like old car parts that sat on shelves vs a new made part.
For us NOS could mean PIW or Parts in Wrap. It is a part that is brand bet but made back when.

@ Smokepole: Yea there are hundreds in use all over the internet and social media. If you include the use of emoji or emoticonsBeer the numbers of shortcuts for words multiply. If we were to list them all then sorting through the list could be overwhelming. Just trying to keep it what we on the forum would commonly use.

List updated, and thanked. Handshake

@ Dan, yes I understood what NOS refers too, just always thought it was kind of a oxymoron.

Why?
It seems a reasonable description of exactly what it purports to be; new parts that have been in stock for a "while" - as opposed to new parts that were made and packaged "recently". Often it is not said, but implied that the packaging may be shelf worn, faded, or damaged in some way.

@ Don "Why?" because the definition of new is " having recently come into existence RECENTMODERN"

Because if you don't dissect the phrase word by word it sounds like an oxymoron.

Why couldn't NOS be used, only recently showing up in a dealer's stockroom? Isn't that New Old Stock too?

Well,
I haven't had a dictionary pulled on me in a while, but to many of us
New means "not used".
I suspect if one delves deep enough into a dictionary he would find a suitable definition:
from the Cambridge English dictionary:

new - adjective [-er/-est only] (NOT USED)

not previously used or owned:
