I live about 1hr+ from Grand Rapids.
Found a description from a seller on Worthpoint,
Here is a link:

As described above, I understood that these started out as Real M1 Carbine stocks that were Rejected.
The Gold paint was rubber stamped: GENUINE ARMY REJECT CARBINE STOCK

I'd try reading and or contacting the Grand Rapids Library or look for this companys history there.
I turned your pictures around for better view.

Welcome to the Forum,

PS See:

There was a site I can't look for right now (it's late) like the Grand Rapids Historical Society that listed area Business's and their products during and after WWII.

I know Robert Irwin owner / operator of the stock making company got a bunch of area business groups together to lobby Ordnance to see what they could bid on. Grand Rapids is in the Grand River basin and furniture was the big ticket item in Kent county. But no one was buying furniture before / after WWII. He managed to put a number of locals companies together that received many contracts.
Any ways, it was in that site I found some history to the commercial use of Irwin and S.E. Overton (from South Haven) made gun stocks among many other wood items.... Field desks, crates, glider parts, etc.
Dig you shall find :- )
