Post Reply - Spotter Report Earliest M2 serial

   CCNL 357 published the latest update of high/low serial numbers observed or known by the club.For an M2 marked receiver, 6,765,788 was the earliest known.

This one was found on a foreign website.
Handstamped 6,722,470 which would be some 43,000 numbers earlier.

Note the late 7-45 barrel which appears original to the carbine
It is possible that this was a floor sweep and assembled very late.

I think Inland’s contracts were canceled in May ’45, but we know they continued making deliveries… just don’t know how long. War Baby page 347, top left para, states that Inland barrels run thru July ’45.  (Japan surrendered in August).

NL 187-1 states that M2 barrels run as late as 8-45.

Please update your records if you follow the high/low numbers in each block.
Please report any interesting carbine or odd marking.

Sometimes we find numbers outside of known numbers due to the cancellation of contracts, missing blocks of numbers etc.
