STD.PRO.CO. receiver

FIRST PHOTOGRAPH OF EARLIEST MARKING USED BY STANDARD PRODUCTS

Thanks to Anne Beach for sending this photograph of the 107th receiver made by Standard Products.
This type marking, with the abbreviation CO., was first reported to the Carbine Club 30+ years ago, but
its existence was never verified. The common STD. PRO. receiver marking (without the CO.), came
into use at some time within the first few thousand receivers. Does anyone else have a STD. PRO. CO.
marked receiver?!

That is fantastic! That gun should be featured in 'Carbines of Note'. What other surprises are inside. Thanks for sharing.

Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum but after reading this post I had to reply. I have an m1 carbine that was given to me about 12 or 13 years ago,the bolt was out and the person did not know how to put it back together and asked if I wanted it. (He inherited it from his father and knew nothing about it.) I stopped at my father's house on the way home from work and he had it together in about 2 minutes.we took it out back and test fired it. (I got 2 boxes of ammo,2 clips, and the pouch that goes around the stock also)anyway I put it away and forgot about it.today my son stopped by to show me one he just bought and asked to look at mine.after looking at them for a while we decided to look up some info on them.turns out mine is marked std.pro.co.just like the one this post is about.the serial # is 2008××× I take it from this post they are rare when marked like this? What do you think it would do to the value? It has a rock Ola barrel if that means anything. Sorry for this being so long, any information on this would be great. Ps.this is a great website.

Thanks,Lee

Thanks, Lee! Very interesting! We hope you can post some photos, and maybe fill out a data sheet on your carbine. Or at least give us some more information on the parts types and markings. STD PRO used mostly Underwood barrels, but a Rock-Ola barrel could be factory-original. If your carbine has a bayonet lug, it has been rebuilt at some time post-war. Hard to say how valuable your receiver is. As you can see from the links above, your's is only the 3rd STD PRO CO marked receiver to ever be reported! - and the 1st report was never substantiated. We don't know how many were marked that way, before the logo was shortened to STD PRO.
Thanks for whatever additional information/photos that you can give us.   Regards, Marty Black

Thanks for the reply marty,
the barrel does have a bayonet lug.as for pictures i'll ask my son to take some when he comes up,hopefully tonight.as previously posted I know nothing about tearing one of these apart.the gun was given to me from a person at work and after my father put it together it was put away.unfortunately my dad passed away so I can't ask him for help any more.

Sorry about being away so long.. medical problems..
Now.. about the Standard Products CO ... The carbine will be at the Birmingham gun show and I will be happy to show it to those interested.

What would you like to know about this particular carbine?? I sent Marty a bunch of photographs etc a while back, but I can take more for those interested.

and NO it is not for sale....

BTW... I am looking for a better stock for this carbine..
The existing stock is correct,
but it was cut to low wood sometime in its life.

If someone has a Standard Products type 1 stock with the high wood intact... I am interested ..

I will photograph the carbine this weekend.. I have a better camera now so the pics will be able to be expanded for detail..
Will you be going to the Birmingham gun show? I have had a lot of requests to bring the CO, so I will have it there.

Just my $.02 on this, but I think the reason the marking was changed is that it would have easily resulted in mis-strikes by the roll die. The full length of the marking had to be extremely precise to fit on the receiver, based on the example provided. It even seems to exceed the space necessary for the full die impression on the example, where the "S" overlaps the line on the left side of the receiver.

There is some kind of mark underneath the S. It's further down on a 45 degree angle from the 1. Also looks to be right on the edge.

I'll note that so far we have only 1 confirmed (with photo evidence) example of one of these variations. I've checked pics of mine last year for this and it has a little earlier serial number than crittergitter's, but it wasn't marked in that manner. Not that an earlier number disproves his, but just as record of serials, it was not marked CO. The original trigger group has a dogleg hammer.

This weekend myself and New2Brass inspected another earlier serial number than Critters from above, and it is also just stamped STD. PRO., with an Underwood 6-43 barrel.  Serial was 2002728.  It had been rebuilt, but still retained it's square S rear sight and SN front sight.  Was not dis-assembled.

Funny that you bring this up, there was a report that the carbine in the original post was there, but not for sale.
Wish I had seen it for some more pics such as front ring and receiver details.

Post Reply - Is it STD.PRO. or STD.PRO.CO.?

There has been a question posted referring to the Standard Products Carbine marked with the "CO"
We have the carbine, what is your question?
