MIGHTY MITES
From various articles by the Associated Press fall 1943

Technician Betty Healy, of the Remington Arms Co., Bridgeport laboratory, is making a comparison of some of the new 30M1 carbine ammunition (left) and regular .30 caliber rifle and machine gun cartridges

The new M1 is now being produced at a rate of 130,000,000 a month. It is only half the weight and one quarter the volume of the ordinary rifle ammunition and has a deadly wallop at 300 yards. The "Mighty Mite" is now in general use and in many instances replacing the shorter ranged .45 caliber automatic pistol.  It is fired from clips holding 15 rounds.

The new 30M1 carbine ammunition, developed for guerrilla fighting by paratroops, landing troops and rangers to lighten their load and provide compact, maximum firepower.

This ammunition was first used extensively at Attu and later to great effect in Sicily.
