Came across this at the show a couple of weeks ago. There were a few Inlands and a couple National Poster meter, but this one caught my eye.
Barrel has Howa "HP" proof Stock looks to be Saginaw, SA marked. From what I've read damaged stocks were replaced during import so who knows.
Serial number in the 2000's.   |

The marking on the receiver ring is a Royal Thai Police marking. The SA marking on the stock is not for Saginaw, it is for Springfield Armory. See below link for more info on Howa Thai carbines..

Couple of us here I know on the forum have a Howa. Well made receivers built to USGI spec.

I have the forum oddball when it comes to Royal Thai marked Carbines. My "Howa" has a scrubbed or never marked Winchester receiver with a serial number of 025XX, cleanly stamped and the RT marking also clearly stamped It came with a Inland USGI barrel, I had that replaced with a new Fulton Armory barrel when they rebuilt it 2-3 years ago and FA confirmed it was a USGI receiver.

Did you buy it?, if so how much if you don't mind me asking. My "Howa" came with a Inland 1944 barrel when I got it several years ago and was marked as an "Inland" by the LGS since he thought it was used by the Philippines and not the Royal Thai police.

That's a good price IMO if the barrels in good condition. Howa's are considered USGI spec and with the original barrel that's a plus unless its worn out.

So at long last it arrived. For some reason when I go to the Birmingham show I come across a rifle I want but the seller left the magazine at home. But they always follow through and mail it to me. It is definetly a Howa. Marked N.V.S. on back at bottom and JAPAN in the floorplate indention. It is a 30 round. Haven't found anything defenitive on whether the Thai rifles had 30s or 15s.

I have an N.V.S. 30-rounder I picked up somewhere. I knew it was Japan-made, but never considered it to be a Howa product.
Are these magazines actually Howa? I guess it makes sense it would be. I have had the mag a long time, but only recently built up a carbine on a Ruth Howa Thai receiver. Runs great.

The reason I asked about the magazine is there was a Howa at the Show of Shows that had a Japanese magazine. I was wondering if the same carbine. There is also a seller on GB that is making a claim of a 30 rounder being made by Howa. It is a very long leap to say that a magazine made in Japan was made by Howa. Consider this, Universal had magazines made in Japan. Were these made by Howa? Back in the 70s and 80s there were so many items marked "Japan" or made in Japan. They even gave a location the name USA so they could label "MADE IN USA " note the lack of periods There is absolutely no proof that any of the magazines made in Japan for the M1 carbine or its variants was made by Howa. Look at how Howa parts are marked or lack there of. That would be a clue.

I wonder how a seller had a Howa carbine and just happened to have a Japan marked magazine? I understand there could be no evidence that Howa DID manufacture magazines, but is there any evidence that they DID NOT?
Not trying to argue the point one way or another, but I wonder if the magazine has always accompanied the carbine or just a case of happenstance?

Are the Howa guns marked "made in Japan"? If not then why mark the magazines? Remember the Howa's were made for the Royal Thai Police. Would they be using a 30 round or 15 round? With the amount of USGI 15 rd mags could they have been using them? Leftover from US occupation etc? As to 30 rounders, I do not have access to my notes, but there are 30rd mags that were made in either Thailand or maybe Taiwan of a high quality. If it was Thailand made, would those be appropriate for the Howa? Bottom line is there is no compelling evidence in either direction to say yea or ney. Back to the carbine at the SOS, I found my pictures, it is in the 1900 range, so not the same gun.

N.V.S. also produced 15-round magazines which had the 30-round nub on the left side. I’ve seen them for sale on another auction site.

I wish I had purchased one of the 50 or so Royal Thai Police Howa's that a vendor had at Knob Creek about 10-12 years ago. I looked at every one of them, but just couldn't justify the purchase at the time.
