Dirty/unprocessed just fine. Looking for 100-500 to get me started.. Need to feed my new-to-me carbine - I think it is hungry!

I've been exceedingly happy with the brass I purchased from Wayne. Shipping was incredibly fair too! Look no further.

Tim, wow I can't believe that you got that brass so quick, I just mailed it on the 22nd. Seems that the post office is always fast when I ship something to someone but always slow when I am expecting something.

W5:
A quick note on the brass you sent.
Loaded up 40 rounds, varied the Win 296 from 14.0 to 14.8 grains with Berry’s plated 110 gr. Used CCI small pistol as that is all I could find. The carbine was happy with all, everything functioned just fine. That action sounds like music, even with ear pro. Thanks for helping getting this STD PRO back in action. |

Since it came up, I need to throw-in a comment about primers. We all know primers are a bit hard to find now and expensive. We have to use what we can find. I interchange small pistol with small rifle. I use rifle primers in 30 carbine as well as 9mm and even small rifle magnum. Of course, rifle primers are recommended for 30-carbine, but maybe one has to use what he has and I have used small pistol, but there is one I think should be avoided. The Federal small pistol magnum primer is soft, too soft for a action with a floating firing pin. I pierced enough of them trying and do not recommend their use in a carbine action.

Good to know Mr. Cat, especially for including the “why” with the “don’t” recommendation on the small magnum primers.
I do look forward to someday finding a carton of small rifle primers on the shelf for this cartridge - then I can save my SPP for their intended use in my handgun loads. |

FYI I resisted re-loading previously shot mixed head stamp brass fearing inconsistent accuracies from differing head stamps to head stamps. But just yesterday I read on the CMP forum mixed head stamp brass re-loads there are no inconsistencies in accuracy. I wish I'd known that before spending $250.00 for off the shelf Bellot & Sellier cartridges just for the brass.

Sellier&Bellot ammo is some of the best. Can’t confirm 30-carbine, but I have shot an unnumbered amount of their 9mm stuff and reload their brass. I have reloaded just about everybody's 30-carbine brass. I would not get too carried away in being that picky on brass to improve carbine accuracy in an action never designed for target shooting. The pencil-thin barrel carbine is what it is, but that’s just ok too.

Thanks for the assurance. You re-load 30 carbine? I'll begin today, maybe. I'm committed to using H110 powder (b/c I have an abundance of it)

Several of us here reload. I have mostly W296, which mimics H110 and do have a bit of H108. That is a rebranded mil-surp. Sort of depends on what we have, or can find I think. Plenty of good H110 load data out there for viewing.

I think W296 was the original USGI milspec load. According to the Hornady reload book W229 and H110 share identical in burn rates. For 1900 f/s velocity the book advises 14.0gr powder. I'll start there and refine load using my chrony and MOA results. If anyone has any brighter ideas I'm all ears.

My loads with 14 gr of h110 and 110 gr pills actually avg. 1950 fps. That is slightly higher than the book states. Not a lot of difference but your mileage may vary.

Thanks for the info. Takes the guess-work outa guessing. I'll do the chrony and get back to ya. P.S.: I like the term "pills"!
