Hi All!
I’ve been an admirer of the carbine for many years. I finally had the chance to pick up one of my own. It’s an inland in great condition but it’s got a stamping on the stock I was looking for info on. Any ideas what the SSK branded in is for? Previous owners initials? Thank you in advance. I don’t think this will be my last carbine by any means. Edited by New2brass - Oct 30 2021 at 7:49pm |

Wow that is nice! 5 or 6 million Inland? I am going to take a walk on a limb here, The following is pure speculation with no backing: The United States Navy had a hull designation of SS. Some of these were a fleet of small diesel-electric subs that were "hunter-killers" that were a class K (SSK). These were the ones that would sit on the bottom and listen for other subs. Walking a bit further out The subs also were numbered, so they would be SSK-1, SSK-235 etc. Maybe the carbines were not assigned to a specific sub, rather the whole SSK fleet, which I think was pretty small. Maybe one of the older Navy guys will have some input. |

Thanks new2brass! Yeah it’s in the 5.4 mil range. That would be an awesome tie in, I’ve been searching for info so far with little luck.

For your first carbine that ain't bad. Mine was an Inland in the early 5 million range that was a Blue Sky import; it was a complete turd compared to yours. Congrats, I like it!

Very nice looking transitional Inland you've got there. On the surface looks to be original. I have never seen a stock marked SSK like that before. If Dan's theory is right... that gun has a very interesting provenance! Where did you find it?

I picked it up at my local gun shop that I’ve been going to for years. It was brought in my an older gentleman who is a long time customer there. I snapped it up the first day it was available. The owner did mention that it might be navy related when I bought it but I didn’t think anything more of it at the time because I didn’t see any connection between the ssk and the navy. I’ll ask for more info next time I’m in.
