    Posted: Sep 25 2020 at 4:01pm
I ran across a gent, user name scotty dive looking for his Fathers M1 Carbine.
Last seen in Monmouth County, New Jersey in 1988 - 1989.
Interesting story I'll link below from the CMP Forum.

Can the Carbine Data Sheets be searched to see if one was filled out for:

UP DATED SERIAL # CORRECTION:
LOOKING FOR INLAND  6841484

Does anyone think the CMP could try a search ?
In case in went thru CMP hands.
If so who would we try to contact there ?

Anyone in New Jersey with any thoughts on searching State records?
Would Police have a serial number record of (God forbid) weapons destroyed or auctioned?

I've been trying the basic Google search, books, past Auctions... etc.
Any suggestions, thoughts ... etc Appreciated.

Thx

Just a couple thoughts:
-If CMP could or would do the search, they would not likely share who bought the carbine-
   nor should they, JMHO
-As far as NJ, I would not open that can of worms

I sympathize with the OP, and would let the members here look and respond;
I'd also post a WTB on the Gunboards forum for that serial number- can't hurt.

Charlie, I put in a request to see if we have a Data sheet.
Like the CMP, we will not give out personal information if we have it. However if we do have contact info we may be able to pass info on to the owner to choose if they want to contact the person looking for the carbine.

The PAST OWNERS fully understand. They would like to give the current owner the back ground on this carbine.
If the Current owner wants to know and reaches out to him.

Currently the previous owner 'scotty diver' has posted 2 separate serial numbers.
Wayne ( Clap ) caught it, we are waiting to see which is the typo.

EDIT, Serial # Corrected:

The Correct Inland Serial #:
6841484

I'd like you all to read where he edited a post:

From scotty diver: "  Just want to add this. If someone on this board or another forum happens to be that needle in the haystack and has this rifle, please, do not feel that you need to sell or part with this weapon in anyway. It was sold fair and square and thats that. It would just be cool to know where it ended up and felt the owner might like to know where it came from and why it was in pristine condition! "

Speaking for myself I'd love to hear from a previous owner about any of my carbines and be told about their military history.
But I understand others can have different opinions on this matter.

Thx All,
Ch-P777
