March 2016-M

FRONT RING MARKING ERROR, QHMC 1572623

Stamping errors have been reported many times in Carbine Club newsletters, and here is another example. QHMC 1572623, a DCM gun sold in 1964, has misaligned and over stamped front ring markings. Note that the die was rolled on very lightly on the far left side of the receiver, then a full stamp was applied nearer the correct position, then a 3rd very deep strike was made in the correct position, but only partially stamped. In the photo at right, note that the full stamp is aligned slightly off center, to the left. Lastly, note that this receiver has a comma instead of a period after the number 30. As reported by Dave Tennent in newsletter #380, this is a characteristic of early QHMC and (apparently) all US&S receivers.

Thanks to

Vance Vasquez for this report.
