Sorry for the terrible picture post. Don’t think I quite got the hang of that...fort post.
Anyway, this is the front lug on an Underwood receiver s/n 142XXXX. I have 3 other UEF carbines and they don’t have this star stamp. Anyone else seen this star stamp before? Thoughts? Thanks Chad

Here's the front lug on my 1.414xxx Underwood. Someone here is keeping notes on these Underwood markings. |

That would be me. Not a lot of time for much of anything, but will reach out when I can.
Only a few have been noted in a relatively narrow UW serial number range. Most probably don’t notice the mark since it is an rarely checked. Its meaning is unknown. Threads here And the one I have here |

Outstanding! The S/N of mine, for record/tracking purposes is: 1428882
Another carbine mystery to solve! Very interesting how it appears, from the links attached, to be nothing but a 1.41 and 1.42 serials, thus far. Much appreciate the info. Chad

Thanks Chad and everyone who have provided examples. The earliest known example has a circular mark. There are some slight
variations in the shape of the star markings, but still a star.
Not many known examples so far. Have a few theories, but purpose remains unknown.

Check this out. An Underwood flat bolt “WU” also marked on the bolt lug with a stamped star. Any ideas or comments to on the reason for this star?

No, First I've seen one. Is the bolt parked? Was it in a 1.4 UW?

I don’t know what it came out of. It is being sold as a complete bolt assembly on eBay.
I wonder if the source or meaning of the star is the same on both the bolt and the receiver? |

Underwood 1422xxx has the asterisk style star on the front of the receiver lug. Consistent style with the serials in close proximity from @m1a1fan's chart.

Similar marks on receiver and bolts noted. Added 1422xxx. Added new column for barrel date.
