Hi everybody New to this forum. I just bought an Inland US M1 Carbine that supposedly was used by Danish freedomfighters here in Denmark. This will be my first US Carbine. I do own a few other rifles - Winchester m1917 (confirmed to have been used by the Danish Sirius Dog Patrol), a Mauser k98 stolen from Germans during ww2 and used by freedomfighters. As you might notice, I have a huge interest in Danish freedomfighters from ww2. The reason for that, is that my grandpa was a freedomfighter. In fact, he was a bodyguard for several high ranking Danish politicians as well as higher ranking people in the national Danish resistance group. I have been doing research into this since he passed away in 2016. Prior to that, we didnt know anything about his work as a freedomfighter. This is also the reason why I buy weapons with Danish freedomfighter connects. I have only been shooting for 18 months or so. I started, because I found out my grandpa won an award for "Best Company Shooter" in March 1940. He was a solider, and he was suppose to have joined the Danish defence line across the Danish border on April 12th 1940. Germany invaded April 9th 1940. Now, for the rifle. As I said, its an Inland with 7 digit sn: 5279305. I dont have it in my hands yet. A license for it will take a few months to arrive. So I only have the pictures from the shop I bought it from. That also means, I dont have any pictures of the proofmarks. So my question is: Does the serial number confirm that this COULD have been dropped into Denmark during ww2? I mean, if it was produced in 1950, there is no way it was dropped into Denmark in 1944 |

Welcome to the forum. Nice looking carbine. Looking forward to more pictures when you get it in your hands. Your Inland was likely made in July of 44. Inland's carbine production ended around Aug of 1945. There were no carbines made in the 50's.

Thanks. And yea, I can hardly wait for the license to go through. The date is also awesome. I was hoping somebody would be able to date it a lot better than I was able to find. That confirms that it is indeed a war time rifle. It also fits in very well with the story that it was dropped into Denmark during ww2. 90% of all weapons dropped was dropped between 1944-45. The group leader for my grandpas group, wrote in his book, that when they got the rifles, they were covered in wax and brown paper. One more question. I know what the metal plate means. But the stamp. I know I have seen it before, but I cant seem to place it. Anybody know where that came from?

The "stamp" is the Ordnance Department Acceptance Stamp (Cartouche). Read more about stock markings in the below link.

Will read Patricks page later tonight. Looks really interesting. As for other wartime firearms. I do have some of those As mentioned, I have a Mauser K98. I also have a m1867 that was cut down both on the barrel and on the stock - so its much easier to conceal it. I have had 2 gunsmiths look at it, and they both say this was done well over 50 years ago - and with a hacksaw, nor a machine. That rifle came from an area where Danish freedomfighters were highly active as well (Odense).

I like sharing them, but it does take a while to tell them all. So patience will be needed a bit for that
